In addition to research assistance, the Center focuses on providing opportunities for both regional stewardship and service-based learning. As the mission of the center is applied in nature, both regional service and service-based learning are natural outcomes of the Center. To this point, the Center focuses its assistance on communities throughout the EKU service area and the rest of Kentucky first, and then on providing assistance on a regional and National level second. Currently, the Center operates two different service related programs:
- Crime Mapping Assistance Program: This program is designed to provide crime mapping assistance to any police agency in KY. Examples of assistance include: Hardware and software decisions, training, and integration with police operations. In addition, undergraduate and graduate students are used extensively within this program as interns providing benefit to the organization while helping to train the next generation of crime analyst.
- Safe by Design Program: This program provides assistance to police and other governmental agencies across KY in all areas of Safe by Design. This assistance includes establishment of the SBD program, SBD audits, training, and design assistance. In addition, undergraduate and graduate students are used extensively within this program as interns, providing benefit to the organization while helping to train the next generation of crime analyst.
